شرح أبو الحسن الباقولي كتاب اللمع لابن جني شرحًا مفيدًا من أدق شروح اللمع، وأشملها، وقد ضمنه أقوال سابقيه من النحويين البصريين، والكوفيين، وغيرهم، وناقش آراء كثيرٍ منهم، إلا أنَّه قد اتخذ موقفًا خاصًا من الفراء، فتناول رأيه بالنقد، وقسا عليه في الرد، فوصف آراءه بالفساد والبطلان، والغلط، وغير ذلك من أساليب النقد. وقد عرض هذا البحث معايير الباقولي ومصطلحاته في نقده لآراء الفراء، كما كشف البحث عن جملة آراء الفراء التي انتقدها الباقولي ودرسها، وناقشها، لبيان صحة هذا النقد من عدمه. وقد توصل إلى جملة من النتائج، منها: تعددت مظاهر نقد الباقولي آراء الفراء، فحكم عليها بالبطلان والغلط والفساد وغير ذلك، ويأتي في مقدمتها النقد بقوله (باطل) فأمثلة النقد به أكثر من أمثلة النقد بغيره. ارتكز الباقولي في نقده آراء الفراء على عدة أمور منها: العلة وهي الغالب، والتعويل على رأي الجمهور، والاعتماد على صحة المعنى وجواز الاستعمال، والاستدلال بالقاعدة النحوية، وغير ذلك. لم يصب الباقولي في بعض نقوده، فقد نسب إلى الفراء ما ليس له، كما في مسألة العطف على الضمير المجرور دون إعادة الجار، فنسب الجواز إلى الفراء، والصواب أن الفراء موافق للبصريين في هذه المسألة، ومن ثم لا وجه لنقده هنا.
Abu al-Hasan al-Baqouli explained Ibn Jinni's book al-Luma' with a useful explanation that is one of the most accurate and comprehensive explanations of al-Luma'. He included in it the statements of his predecessors from the grammarians of Basra, Kufa, and others, and discussed the opinions of many of them. However, he took a special position on al-Farra', so he criticized his opinion and was harsh in his response, describing his opinions as corrupt, invalid, and wrong, among other methods of criticism. This research presented Al-Baqouli's criteria and terminology in his criticism of Al-Farra's opinions. The research also revealed a set of Al-Farra's opinions that Al-Baqouli criticized, studied, and discussed, to clarify the validity of this criticism or not. He reached a set of results, including: Al-Baqouli's criticism of Al-Farra's opinions varied, so he ruled them invalid, wrong, corrupt, and other things, and at the forefront of them is criticism by saying (invalid), as examples of criticism by it are more than examples of criticism by other things. Al-Baqouli based his criticism of Al-Farra's opinions on several matters, including: the reason, which is the most common, reliance on the opinion of the majority, reliance on the correctness of the meaning and the permissibility of usage, and inference from the grammatical rule, and other things. Al-Baqouli was not right in some of his criticisms, as he attributed to Al-Farra what is not his, as in the issue of the conjunction of the genitive pronoun without repeating the preposition, so he attributed the permissibility to Al-Farra, and the truth is that Al-Farra agreed with the Basrans on this issue, and therefore there is no reason to criticize him here.
